Ethiopia Goro Bedessa Galano

From: 13,25

Guji has become one of the more prominent regions we look for in Ethiopia, and this natural processed coffee is another gem from the area. Although the washing station is named to the likes of an “Elegant man” the coffee is very distinctive and punchy. Its foremost boozy, thick and winelike, with notes of red fruits, tropical guava, purple fruits like plum and mellow lemon.

A note from our supplier, Nordic Approach:

This lot comes from the dry station located in the Goro Bedessa town (kebele) of Hambela Wamena. The washing station is located at 2350 masl and due to the high potential the area shows for high-quality coffee, they decided to name the station Galano – a nickname that refers to the Spanish word for “elegant man”. The cherries that contributed to this lot have been produced by 76 single farmers who are located in the surroundings of the dry station.

The Guji region receives ample rainfall and is marked by steep mountainous terrain. Perfect conditions to support the vast array of coffee are found here. Only recently have Guji coffee beans been distinguished from neighbouring Sidamo and Yirgachefe producing areas. Due to their immensely good quality and unique profiles, they are quickly gaining worldwide recognition.

Farming methods in Guji remain largely traditional. Guji farmers typically intercrop their coffee plants with other food crops. This method is common among small scaled farm holders because it maximizes land use and provides food for their respective families. Most farms are also traditional and organic by default.

Before harvest started, farmers put special attention to preparing the field for the season by weeding, pruning/stumping and replacing the old trees with new seedlings. This year, we have purchased two washed lots from this site, but they also produce different natural lots.

When coffees are processed as naturals, cherries are selectively hand-picked and put on drying tables immediately after.

Our coffee comes in craft paper bags which contain a plastic liner on the inside to guarantee freshness of our coffee. Please dispose properly at your local plastic trash container. The Village Coffee is roasted fresh every week, and best consumed within four weeks after roast date. Store your coffee in a dry, dark and cool place, avoid the fridge.
