Honduras Picacho El Porvenir

From: 11,40

Maria’s coffee is a perfect example for how great it can be for a farmer to get the opportunity to produce coffee for the specialty market instead of a commercial grade. With dedication and great care she elevated her coffee to taste as clean and balanced as it does now and we hope she will be able to keep improving her lots as she shows incredible potential. We found sweet red apple covered in caramel, with additional purple fruits like plum and some delicate apple blossom flowers on top.

A note from our supplier, Nordic Approach:

This coffee has been produced on the farm El Povenir by Maria Ilda Garcia Aguirre. El Porvenir is a farm owned by Maria Garcia, located in Picacho of Masaguara, Intibuca. Maria has 3 hectares of coffee, sitting at 1750 masl. She grows the IH-90 variety on clay soil, with her average production per year reaching 25 bags.

Maria gives credit to her family for the farm she owns, acknowledging her children and husband for supporting her through her journey in specialty coffee production. She is a hard worker and has put her heart into becoming an excellent coffee producer. Maria is very enthusiastic about switching her production to specialty, as coffees that are sold at low prices make it difficult for farmers to support their families. “My goal is to continue improving my farm and production, so I can keep on offering my coffees to you and provide a better life for my family”, says Maria. “I also want to eventually construct solar dryers”.

The farm is maintained using traditional tools like the Cuma (a curved knife), machete, and azadón ((hoe/pickaxe) for cleaning. Fertilisers are applied to ensure soil health. Only the ripest cherries are hand-picked, and they are milled on the same day. After a 24-hour fermentation process, the coffee is washed with clean water and dried on screens for about 25 days until it reaches optimal dryness.

Our coffee comes in craft paper bags which contain a plastic liner on the inside to guarantee freshness of our coffee. Please dispose properly at your local plastic trash container. The Village Coffee is roasted fresh every week, and best consumed within four weeks after roast date. Store your coffee in a dry, dark and cool place, avoid the fridge.
