Guatemala Huehuetenango Jose Lopez

From: 8,75

For being a first generation farmer Jose sure did a fantastic job. Grown around the town of Petatan in the luscious green mountains of Huehuetenango this is a coffee that fits an easy morning. This coffee is driven by the soft flavors of peach and honey on a base of caramel and pecan nuts.

A note from our supplier, Primavera:

Jose Lopez Domingo is a first-generation coffee producer in the town of Petatan in Huehuetenango. Jose makes sure that his coffee is being picked when the cherries are the ripest. This harvest his coffee was picked in three passes on the farm and depulped the same day of the picking. The coffee is being fermented with water in cases between 36 to 42 hours depending on the temperature and then washed with clean water in wooden containers. The coffee is being dried in the sun on the patio from four to five days. Jose also makes sure to go through his parchment manually to eliminate the visual defects and impurities.

The name of Jose’s farm, Buena Vista, comes from the high altitude location of the farm on the Petatan summit. From the farm there is an excellent view over Petatan and the neighbouring areas.

“We did not know what to grow until my wife thought we should grow coffee. We established our own warehouse and planted coffee trees. First harvest was a new experience for the whole family and the excitement of the harvest was a dream come true”, tells Jose.

What does the future hold?

In the future Jose is interested in continuing to innovate the production of coffee.

Thoughts from the producer:

“Being part of this coffee world has given our family a better life and we are happy that we can contribute in generating employment in our area for the people who really need it. Our approach is to produce specialty coffee but also contribute to the care and conservation of our nature. As a small producer we really rely and depend on coffee”, Jose explains.

Our coffee comes in craft paper bags which contain a plastic liner on the inside to guarantee freshness of our coffee. Please dispose properly at your local plastic trash container. The Village Coffee is roasted fresh every week, and best consumed within four weeks after roast date. Store your coffee in a dry, dark and cool place, avoid the fridge.
